My mother introduced me to scented drawer liners at a very young age, it was always considered to be the ladylike thing to do. Since then, I have never been without a scented drawer liner or a perfumed wardrobe. That being said, throughout the years I have struggled to find a liner or a sachet with a scent that I really liked. A trip to Marrakesh provided me with an alternative, pieces of amber. Not only are they affordable but they last forever and fit snuggly into any desk and wardrobe.  My Amber substitution has served me well over the years but it’s time for a change, a change of scent. Hello Rituals rice milk and cherry blossom sachets.

Sachets of Joy

These were gifted to me by a good friend as part of a wedding beauty box, I know, I’m blessed. Every single item was aimed at making me feel relaxed and cherished. The scented sachets achieved both objectives.

Whilst I have predominantly used amber for years, where I could, I have trialled different scented sachets. I purchased my most recent sachets whilst on holiday in Koh Samui (Thailand) during a trip to a local mall. Desperate for some retail therapy, my friend Sophia and I stumbled upon a Thai fragrance company called Harnn. Over an hour later and we left the store with a number of scented home products, the Beijing scented aromatic charms/sachets were the best buys.

Beijing is a combination of citrus notes from the bergamot and orange peel mixed with Jasmine and water lily. As a consequence, it is an oriental floral fragrance which is an ideal one for clothes.

Unfortunately after a year and eight months later, they lost their scent. Furthermore,  with the cost of shipping, it would not be economical to have them delivered to the UK. I know, first world problems. Fear not, the problem has been solved by Rituals.

13 Collections

There are different collections within Rituals‘s range. Each collection has a specific meaning. If you are not familiar with Rituals, this brand produces fragranced products for home and body. They also produce cosmetics.

Each collection is inspired by a different location. From the Hammam collection aimed at creating a feeling of purification with Rosemary and Eucalyptus. To the Banyu collection containing Balinese sea salt and aimed at producing a sense of wellbeing.

I have used Rituals products for years. It was initially my go-to for candles, and I now use the hammam collection’s body scrubs, gel and body mask.

Top tip, sign-up for their newsletter so that you are alerted of their sale. This is key as they have gift sets containing a whole host of products that can be purchased at a fraction of the normal price.

I have purchased a number of ritual perfumes over the past year and am yet to be disappointed. I won’t go into more details here as I plan to review their perfumes at a later date.

For me, a good fragrance has the ability to impact my mood. They can energise you when you are tired, relax you when you need to sleep. Whatever the reason, I need a fragrance with an impact. The fragrances that feature across the collection have this ability and whilst some are not for me, there is a fragrance for everyone.

Rice Milk and Cherry Blossom

The rice milk and cherry blossom fragrance (the subject of this post) falls under the Sakura collection. The premise of this collection is the celebration of the fleeting beauty of the Sakura blossom.

Throughout Asia rice is a symbol of abundance, happiness, and fertility. With regards to the Sakura collection, the rice milk gives the products a cream/milky scent. I do not have children but it reminds me of baby products. Also, the milk adds an element of powder, think floral soap and you will not be far off.

The blossom of the Sakura tree (Japanese cherry) is often described as spring snow by Japanese poets.

Japanese Cherry Blossom

On its own, cherry blossom has an intense bitter sweet aroma. Hence Rituals blends it with rice milk. Also, do not be confused by the name cherry as cherry blossom has a floral scent profile rather than being fruity. The combination of the two scents has produced a floral, powdery fresh scent which reminds me of sweet flowers blowing in the wind.

Bubblegum?

As with all of my reviewed items, I always ask my husband’s opinion. On smelling this sachet he was reminded of strawberry bubblegum.  I can see what he means as sometimes bubble gum can have a creamy/milk scent, further some florals can smell fruity too. I was going to explain the notes to him but I stopped myself as I cannot train his nose; an unbiased nose is required for future reviews.

If in doubt, use it to fragrance a room!

I have purchased rice milk and cherry blossom fragranced body products in the past. Whilst I liked the scent it was not one for my body. Stupidly I did not considered this fragrance for my room. How wrong I was!

Rice milk and cherry blossom wardrobe sachets are the perfect addition to any wardrobe. Not only do they scent the space, they delicately scent your clothes too.

Now to the Science

There are two sachets in a box and each sachet lasts 8-10 weeks; this is true of many wardrobe sachets on the market. I would love it if Rituals and other brands sold a perfume for the purpose of revitalising the sachets once the scent has worn out. All of the sachets that I have encountered are made of fabric and could be reused. It is a shame to throw such items away.

The sachets are primarily white and pink. This is not of material importance to me as whilst a nice to have, scented sachets do not have to match the room’s colour scheme. They are used to being invisible.

Overall, I recommend these sachets for ease of purchase and their scent throw.

I am two weeks in and I am aware that the next six will fly by. I hope that like those purchased from Harrn, Rituals’s sachets will last far longer than advertised. If not, what am I to do when the scent runs out? All suggestions and/or recommendations are welcome.
